Department of Screen-based Arts

The Department of Screen-based Arts is a unique department operating at the forefront of global activity in the fields of animation, video and cinema, and is considered a pioneer in cinematic language and in combining cutting edge technological tools with traditional arts.

The department grew out of two creative traditions: animation and video. Both traditions use diverse techniques of expression – classic animation, stop-motion, 3D, video art, experimental cinema and documentary cinema. Today, the approach is to combine diverse disciplines with the aim of creating a new, innovative and original cinematic language to create worlds and develop original and personal thinking, concepts, and creativity, through which the students can tell their personal story in a fresh, never-before-seen way.

Students in the department have a passion for storytelling and for exploring their place in this exciting time when the screen is more accessible than ever to creators and audiences. Studies in the department instill in-depth foundations of knowledge and diverse skills of craft and expression – starting from a simple pencil illustration on paper, through animating objects in space, to the most advanced technologies of 3D, gaming, virtual reality (VR), augmented reality (AR), and more.
