A Journey from the River to the Sea
The project traces the course of the Nahal Prat (Wadi Qelt) to the Nahal Sorek Estuary, crossing the country from east to west – from the Jordan River to the Mediterranean Sea. The journey is a cross-section that traverses changing landscape layers – desert, mountain, lowland, and sea – as well as diverse populations and territories of different political status, including Areas A, B, C, East Jerusalem, and the State of Israel. Tracing the journey of the water reveals how it serves as a tool for shaping the landscape, while also carrying political, religious, and social significance.
Certain moments along the journey underscore the human intervention in the natural water cycle. A series of targeted proposals that address the water system, the land, and the people outlines a platform for a renewed understanding of the space, presenting a multicultural and inclusive rereading of the landscape and the people living between the river and the sea.
