Land of Passage
The project centers on the historical roads that cross the Land of Israel by exploring the structures along these routes. Borders, rulers, and regimes have changed throughout history, but the roads connecting Africa, Asia, and Europe remained in place, while the structures build along them have accumulated more and more layers. The project was born through personal travels throughout this space, on which I sought out to meet the road as a traveler, and to find a temporary home in it. To me, the rest stops, water reservoirs, and shelters seemed like minor architecture that carries a heavy burden - from the seemingly eternal stone to the taut fabric of the nomadic spirit. Drawing on my personal experience and the architectural study of these structures, I wish to propose a series of road structures, and add a layer to the cumulative formulation of a material road language in today’s Levantine space. he stone model was made in collaboration with Ifrach studio A.
