between the seams
My home is in Beit Safafa, an Arab village in the south of Jerusalem. My project begins in the past, from the moment a dividing line was drawn on the village map — a line that split the village in two, dividing streets, families, and homes. This line separated neighbors, placing each on opposite sides of the fence. Nevertheless, my grandfather and grandmother married and built a family. The collection expresses flow and continuity, and a deep connection to nature and the landscape. I used textiles as if they were a canvas for painting, designing marks above and beneath the surface of the fabric. In each design, I created a unique textile space by combining traditional handcraft techniques — braiding, embroidery, and yarn dyeing — alongside contemporary concepts. I designed silhouettes that go beyond the body’s boundaries and create a space between the garment and the body. Materials: Viscose fabrics, natural cotton threads, elastic threads, tie-dye colors for textiles. Techniques: Braiding, smocking embroidery, channel stitching and gathering, hand-dyeing of threads, sublimation printing on textiles.
