Cairn: Stone as a Space for Memory
The project offers a fresh look at objects of memory in individual Israeli grief, examining how we mourn, remember, and cope with loss. It addresses questions of continuity and change: which customs have endured over time and how is individual grief manifested in different spaces. Through a design process, the project offers a contemporary take on coping with loss – using stone as a central material element and addressing the five stages of grief model. The object aims to serve as a therapeutic tool for coping with loss in Israeli society, and to open a door for a conversation about such a difficult and prevalent subject, which today is found in almost every corner of Israeli reality.
