Desert-ed-Water – Agriculture | Desert | Academy
Global warming is already evident in our lifetime: Rising temperatures are shrinking the ice wastelands on both poles while expanding the hot deserts near the equator. Coupled with the current population growth rate, the answer is unequivocal – we must learn to settle and live in more extreme weather conditions, and perhaps even in scarcity of resources.
The project “Desert-ed-Water” combines the two characteristics that make up its name – desert and water. Set at Midreshet Ben-Gurion in Sde Boker, it proposes a replanning of the site, striving to realize Ben-Gurion’s vision for the place – from kindergarten to the academy.
The new plan combines ancient agricultural methodologies for water storage and usage in sustainable farming with the core principles of kibbutz life.
