Tel Aviv is currently undergoing an intense process of urban densification that will transform it in the near and distant future: high-rise construction, increased mixed-use development, integration of public programs into private buildings, and a systemic shift to mass public transportation at the expense of the private car. The decline in the status of private cars in the city will alter the nature and role of existing parking facilities and raises questions about their future in the city. This project proposes a new role for these facilities within the future urban layout while examining their ability to be reused and serve as multi-purpose public centers that contribute to the future of the city as agents of change towards a sustainable urban society. The proposal includes tangible solutions for case studies of above-ground parking structures, which allow for immersive interaction with the immediate urban environment and will act as an urban generator across a diverse range of programs. In the case study, the structure is opened and transformed into an urban agriculture center, accessible to the public and creating a direct connection between the urban field and nature, and between people and local organic production. The building functions as a public hub fostering rich community interaction, while also serving as a climatic core for carbon storage and cooling the local environmental system.
