Here, Elsewhere
HERE, ELSEWHERE | Israeli Identity in Near Exile | Vika Libman, Yuval Avraham | Instructors: Arch. Ifat Finkelman, Arch. Deborah Pinto Fdeda | Israeli migration to Cyprus is more than the movement of people — it brings with it homes, institutions, habits, expertise, and networks of allegiance. This project explores how Israeli identity migrates, replicates, and re-attaches itself to foreign ground. Through three architectural lenses — urban, suburban, and rural — HERE, ELSEWHERE maps the quiet diffusion of Israeli presence across Cyprus: a shift between investment and belonging, temporary residence and soft integration, personal longing and territorial imprint. Using detailed mapping, stakeholder analysis, layered spatial readings, and speculative design, the project investigates a contemporary form of migration — one that no longer builds nations, but assembles enclaves of familiarity. Israeli architecture in Cyprus emerges as both a symbol of power and an instrument of translation and displacement. It blurs the line between here and there, leaving behind a space of ambiguity, memory, and soft persistence.
