Incantation Bowls

In ancient times, among Jewish communities in Babylon, people used incantation bowls-clay vessels inscribed with magical texts and images of demons. These were buried upside down beneath home floors, meant to trap harmful forces and restore a sense of control. I’m afraid too, and that’s what first connected me to them. From within the paralyzing fear and the need for grounding, I hold on to what I can control: the material, my hands, my space, a room of my own. That’s where I begin. “A cry of the individual who has despaired of the possibility that their art might change the course of life… And if despair cannot be conquered, perhaps at least it can be expressed.” Moshe Gershuni Mentored by: Prof. Merav Saomon, Dan Ozeri
