We spend an average of 5.5 hours a day on our phones – about 12 years of our life away from the “here and now”. “JOMO” is a design attempt to examine how interactions with everyday objects can give a tangible expression to the intangible digital time consumed by screens: A toilet paper holder that reflects scrolling distance in the bathroom, salt shaker that responds to attention at mealtime, a charger that gets shorter the longer we scroll. The project tackles questions about distractions, digital-life balance, and loss of presence – and proposes: Maybe we should miss out more?
