Memento mori
The meal is the most accurate metaphor for life in the shadow of death.
In my project, I aim to place the viewer in a state of observation and self-reflection, to awaken awareness of the fragility of existence, and to remind them that everything comes to an end. Through the combination of the materiality of glass and the act of the meal, I explore how an ostensibly mundane moment such as eating carries within it an acknowledgment of death and disappearance.
I carry its presence, and it becomes especially sharp at the moment of eating. The reality of death appears to me in every meal and imposes itself, but it is precisely in that where the proof of my life lies.
