Not a Soldier. alone

A “lone soldier” is a Jewish immigrant serving in the military without family in Israel. This project examines the civilian’s experience on the seam between migration and settlement, air and body, feminine and masculine. Hundreds of drone enthusiasts head out to the field to experience vicarious flight. They don’t try to impress anyone, and do not seek glory. But what is the value of these photos? A drone may be used as a toy, a weapon, or an escape engine. How can civilians create a military experience in their own backyard? Does this attempt embody a longing for belonging, a sublimation of the hunter instinct, or an effort to perpetuate oneself?
