Classical music was the center of my world throughout my childhood and teenage years. I aspired to become a pianist and to play professionally. The high expectations, both internal and external, paralyzed me and led me to stop playing at the age of sixteen. This year, nearly a decade later, I decided to return to the last piece I had abandoned — Chopin’s Nocturne No. 20 in C-sharp minor. Since I don’t own a piano, I began practicing on pianos placed in public spaces across the country. This time I come as I am, through trial and error, surrounded by the rhythm of public life. I go out alone, with sheet music and a video camera, in search of a piano, hoping to create a moment of connection with the world around me during a time of war and uncertainty. I wander through spaces that are both familiar and alien, encountering unexpected experiences and meetings offered by the Israeli street. The music and the emotional upheaval of the current times are lined with thoughts of leaving this country, thoughts that lead me, unexpectedly, to wish for a reconnection.
