Out of the depths
This work is an invitation into a landscape.
Desert. Water. Salt. Earth.
With the birth of my son and my husband’s enlistment to reserve duty, I felt a growing need to search for my place - for our place — in the world, to understand where my faith stands and where I am leading it.
During my travels around the Dead Sea, I found both conceptual inspiration and a path toward answers, through gazing at the endless landscape and the accumulated layers of earth.
The work is arranged so that the landscapes appear to float, while the vessels remain grounded — made of clay and wrapped in a variety of glazes.
The layers of glaze create unique interactions, inviting the viewer to pause, observe, and dive into the details.
Dimensions: The project is composed of surfaces measuring 1 meter wide by 40 cm, with vessels reaching up to 60 cm in height.
Materials: Clay and glazes
Technique: Handbuilding (sculpting) and wheel throwing
Mentor: Maya Muchawsky Parnas
