Growing up, I often felt the power of songs to move us, even before I understood their meaning. As I grew older, I was also exposed to the poetry of words, and their power to change became clear to me. Inspired by Brazil’s cordel literature (small booklets that would tell tales and news through poetry and block prints), I tell the stories of successful social struggles and movements in history, interpreted through popular local songs. By learning from the past, pursuing justice, and instigating a sense of solidarity, we can gather our strength and continue the fight for a better tomorrow, for all.
