The Neighboring Building
The restrictions on human movement, torture and oppression that occur at the Russian Compound Detention Facility in Jerusalem act as a disruption within the urban space. Using a reality-based camera and design tools, I have investigated the possibility of revealing the hidden violence inside its walls. This work produces an interaction between the viewer and the prison's image - a diagram that appears, falls apart and is rebuilt on the screen according to the viewer's movements near the work. The prison's diagram is being exposed while simultaneously the testimony of Meir Baruchin, a civics teacher, is heard. Baruchin was detained after being framed as a security threat for expressing solidarity with the children of Gaza. The testimony continues to play only when the viewer remains present.
