The other city

This docu-ethnographic project is based on a series of interviews with foreign women – labor migrants, new Jewish immigrants, and others who moved to Tel Aviv to study or work. Their narratives shed light on the Other City: a Mediterranean Tel Aviv as opposed to its Western and modern doppelganger; a duplicitous and shattered city, racist and dangerous rather than free, inclusive and tolerant. Two cities where glamor and gloom coexist. The project offers a reflexive and alternative reading of urban space – not through master plans or formal representations, but out of quotidian experiences of alienness, fear and longing.
