The Souvenir

A children's book about a 60 year-old man who sets out on a journey to meet his brother and reconcile with him after 10 years in which they have'nt spoken. The story begins in a small town in the United States, from which the protagonist travels to a fantasy world (where his brother is) through a forest near the town. On his way, the hero meets a gang of criminals who he used to lead in his past and is forced to try to prevent them from harming his brother, whom they see as an enemy. The story is told from the perspective of his granddaughter, who admires him and is forced to process the realization that he has significant flaws. The book combines the format of a children's book with a comic book and examines the tension between the world of the adults and the naive perspective of children on it.
