Urban Interface
The project presents a critical examination of the conservation values of built heritage in Tel Aviv's Florentine neighborhood. The focus of this examination is on the cultural, architectural, material, and textural heritage that exists between the new and the old, while also acknowledging the neighborhood's historical values. Under the conservation and design guidelines devised for Florentine, the project offers a new interface to the neighborhood fabric. As a transitional neighborhood, the façades of buildings in Florentine reflect the layers of time, the vitality and freedom, human turnover, and technological changes in construction infrastructure. The façade serves as a geological cross-section for the neighborhood's textural and spatial evolution. The project offers a complex and new reading of the preservation of values and actions that have shaped the city and its residents, by conserving a space that is not only about buildings but also includes the actions and identities of the city’s communities.
